FAQ: MapSource, City Select, firmware, basemap, what is all this?

Firmware is the software which runs on your GPS V, like your desktop computer probably is running some sort of Microsoft Windows. MapSource is the Garmin specific software to manage Garmin GPS receivers, loading maps into your GPS V, exchanging waypoints, tracks and routes. City Select is a set of maps which can be uploaded to your V and it comes (how confusing!) in different flavors: US versions, European versions, version 4.0, 4.01 or 5.0. And the basemap is a very simple map that is loaded into the V by Garmin and can't be changed, but can be used for rough (highway type) routing. So, you have all these things and use them together. =8-)
