FAQ: Quest map compatibility

On the Garmin website, the Garmin Bluechart maps are listed as "Limited compatibility". I asked Garmin if this only was the tide tables support and what other maps the Quest is incopatible with. This is what they answered:

  • The only limitation of the Quest with BlueCharts is indeed the tidal
    station limitation.
  • In general the Quest is compatible with all current MapSource
products.  This does not mean that future evolution of some of the products
might be still be supported in the Quest once that they become available.
  • When loading the City Navigator Europe to a Quest, the unit will
behave similarly to a StreetPilot 2610 at the current stage of development.
This does not mean that future evolution of City Navigator Europe might be
still be supported in the Quest once that they become available.

The Quest also happily loads all kinds of custom maps, so you can load about any map in the Quest's memory and everything will work except the Bluechart tidal station feature.

The Quest 2 is shipped with the preloaded City Navigator NT line of maps, giving the same advantages the Streetpilot 2610 and III have over City Select (as Garmin replied). The additional memory will allow all other maps to load as with the Quest 1.
