HOWTO: change the voice prompt languageThe Quest supports al of its menu languages without doing anything special, but the lady inside can only speak one language at a time. Changing the installed language is easy, if you follow the steps below. This HowTo installs the original (version 2) audio. Installing the newer version 3 audio is described in the Quest Audio Archive. | You start by inserting the Quest Setup CD into your CD drive. If the setup program does not automatically start, browse to the drive in Explorer and run SETUP.EXE. The screen will look like the one on the left. If you haven't done so already, now it the time to install Mapsource City Select, since the language installer relies on the USB drivers that Mapsource installs. After the installation, start this procedure again. | | Place the mouse cursor over the Change Voice Language item and the creen changes to the one on the left. It indicates that you can change the language of the voice prompts in your Quest and that it needs a Mapsource installation. Just click the Change Voice Language item. | | Here you get to choose which language you want the Quest to speak. Currently you can choose from Danish, German, two flavors of English, Spanish, Finnish, Frnech, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish. You should select the language you want to upload into the Quest. After selecting the desired language, you click Next. | | Now is the time to connect your Quest to your computer with the supplied USB cable and turn it on. After this step, we will need it to be connected and turned on. This screen confirms your choice of language ("Voice: Nederlands" in this example) and clicking the Upload Voice button will start the Updater program which uploads the voice into your Quest. | | Select USB Device if it is not already selected and choose your Quest if more than one item is listed. In most instances, you don't have to alter anything. Press OK to start uploading the voice to the Quest. | | The updater will now udate the "software" (the voice prompts are actually part of the Quest permanent memory and are seen as software), which will take a few seconds. Meanwhile, the Quest screen is showing a simple "Loader" prompt. This is the time you shouldn't remove the USB cable or turn the Quest off... | | After a few seconds, the voice prompts are updated and you are ready to go! You can now also close the Quest Setup program. |
