FAQ: what's inside the Quest speaker housing?

Many people are curious what is inside the speaker housing of the Quest cradle assembly. Well, Isdert was doing some research how to mount the speaker away from the cigarette lighter socket and took some pictures of the inside for the FAQ. Isdert, thank you! =8-)

Inside the case (besides the speaker, ofcourse!) are the 12v to 5v regulator (you did know the Quest gets 5 Volts on the connector on the back?) and the amplifier for the speaker. The Quest does not have an internal amplifier and only delivers a line signal on the connector on the back.

For the Quest owners who think the voice prompts are of low quality, you could mod the case to add a 3.5mm socket and use a better speaker. There is some room, but just enough to add the socket. I heard some use the (leftover) speaker of a Nokia CARK91 GSM carkit or a special communications speaker and the voice prompts sound much clearer then!
