FAQ: Can I change the V's basemap?

No. The basemap is fixed and can't be changed (unless you perform some kind of brain surgery on the V anyway, see FAQ: What is inside the GPS V case? for some very early observations). The V only has a basemap for about 1/3rd of the world, for the rest of the world the V only has country outlines and a very few major cities. If you want to use your V outside the area for which it has a basemap, there is only one solution: upload maps for that area. The smallest maps are from the Garmin MapSource Worldmap, but any compatible map will do. But: City Select for example will not display when zoomed out too much, then the basemap takes over. And when there is no basemap... there is nothing to display. The workaround is to also load Worldmap maps, which support zooming out the most.
