FAQ: How does the V know what the altitude is?

The GPS V has no hardware altimeter inside, unlike some other GPS receivers. It gets the altitude information from the satellite, which is based on a mathematical model of the earths surface. The vertical precision is also less accurate than the horizontal precision, because of the way how GPS works.
